Sgt. John “Jack” McGee

     Sgt. John J. McGee was appointed a police constable in 1905, and when Cranston incorporated as a city in 1910, he was one of the original ten patrolmen appointed to the newly established permanent police department.  He patrolled the Auburn section by bicycle in the early 1900s.  He continued serving the citizens of Cranston until his retirement on September 1, 1939.

     Officer Francis J. McElroy was born in Providence on August 4, 1893, and was appointed to the CPD in 1929.  Officer “Mac” was known for his humorous wit.  He passed away in his sleep at his home on Cedar Street on June 19, 1956.  He was still on the police department at the time of his death, and was the possessor of badge #1.  He was a WWI navy veteran, and member of the Cranston Fraternal Order of Police.  He’s buried in St. Ann’s Cemetery. 

Sgt. William H. Maher

     Sgt. William Henry Maher was appointed a police constable in 1908, and latter appointed a permanent member of the force.  He was promoted to sergeant in 1922.  He passed away at his home on Franklin Street on December 11, 1924 after a brief illness. He was 41.  He was survived by his wife and three children.  He’s buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, R.I.

Sgt. Fred H. Guile

     Sgt. Fred H. Guile  was appointed to the CPD on July 19, 1946.  As a patrolman he served in the Traffic Division.  He was promoted to sergeant on August 28, 1961.  He retired in February of 1965.   

     Officer Peter L. McGuirl passed away suddenly on June 19, 1937, a few hours after completing his shift.  He’s buried in St. Ann’s Cemetery. 

     No further information is known at this time.
